Obituary for Pal (Florence) Marshall

Print
MARSHALL, Pal (Florence Catherine) - With sadness in our hearts but smiles in our souls we announce the passing of our Mother, Pal, in her 93rd year on August 23, 2018.

Pal chose to pass peacefully with her dignity intact, and on her own terms. Not surprisingly, she maintained her sense of humour to the very end. She felt very fortunate to have had control over her own destiny. She was at peace, having said her good byes and welcomed the beginning of her new journey. This brings us a great deal of comfort.

A special thank you to the Palliative Care Team at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket. We are especially grateful to Dr. Harold Yuen and Maggie Kaplan, Pal’s nurse, for their laughter, kindness, compassion and their empathy as they supported Pal and became part of this journey. In addition, Pal was thankful to have been given a choice in her destiny with the support of the Dying with Dignity organization.

Pal came from a large and loving family, who all possessed a great sense of humour. She was predeceased by her loving husband Jimmy; her parents, Arthur and Nellie White, her brothers and sisters: Frank (Audrey), Carl (Norma), Elva (Dewar), Helen ( Bob), Eileen (Eddie) Alice (Bernie) Arthur (Shirley). Pal leaves behind her loving children, Doug (Nel), Steve (Lynn), Janet (Christopher), James (Kelly) and Bob. Pal will be sorely missed by her grandchildren, Steven (Nadine), Shane, Devon (Anahí), Emma, Ben, Matthew (Amanda), Sarah, Carrie, Joshua, Nicole and her great grandchildren, Owen, Jacob, Aubree, Aiden, Nathan, Tristan, Jeremiah, Janai, Ainhoa, Callum and Irune. Pal was loved by her many nieces and nephews as well as her grand nieces and nephews.

Pal was loved by all who met her, and made friends easily. She was a strong and independent woman who had a great sense of humour, and never took herself too seriously. Pal, her siblings and her best friend Vi Burke provided us with funny stories and much laughter over the years. She lead a full life living on the shores of Lake Scugog where she made many friends, played bridge and golfed at Crestwood Golf Club for a number of years. She also enjoyed lawn bowling in Port Perry, ten-pin bowling and darts.

There will be no funeral or visitation as per Pal's wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes (Lindsay) or to the Canadian Cancer Society.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday October 20, 2018 at “Celebrations”, 35 Lindsay Street North, Lindsay, Ontario from 1:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. Tributes and the Sharing of Memories will begin at 2:00 p.m.

Come and share your memories of Pal as we pay tribute to a most remarkable woman.
